Fix at Four.

Fix at Four is the newest campaign from Best Friends Animal Society. The primary goal of Fix at Four is to spread the awareness about spaying and neutering your pets, puppies and kittens, by four months of age in an attempt to help eradicate the pet overpopulation problem.

Kittens can get pregnant as early as four months of age and puppies can get pregnant as young as SIX months of age. Yikes, right?! As a result, over half of 70,000 puppies and kittens are from accidental litters EVERY DAY.

Puppies and kittens can actually be spayed or neutered starting at eight weeks of age, but the best thing to do would be to consult with your veterinarian and determine when the best time to spay or neuter your companion pet would be.

A lot of people worry that they cannot afford the procedure which is a completely legitimate question, the cost of being a guardian for a companion animal is not cheap. However, if you do enough research both online and through talking to your local veterinarians and shelters, you may find that you could have your cat fixed around $50 and under and your dog for as low as $150. There are those times when certain shelters and organizations offer FREE spay/neuter services, though one typically has to fall in a certain income bracket to qualify. No matter what, it is worth checking out and even MORE importantly, it is worth it to have your companion pet fixed for his or her own well being and overall health.
