Purebred Dogs

Are you of the mindset that the only way you can get a purebred dog is to buy one from a pet store, or adopt on from a breeder? Well, this blog post is dedicated to help those individuals start to see that pet stores and breeders are NOT your only option. In fact, pet stores and breeders should be the LAST place any animal lover go for adopting an animal (that goes without saying, and I will leave the politics of this out of my blog-a-thon).

Pictured above is Sabine, she would love to meet you! Did you know that Sabine is a four-year-old PUREBRED Saint Bernard? That is right, PUREBRED. Sabine currently resides at the Best Friends Animal Society-Los Angeles Adoption Center in Mission Hills, CA and would love to be your FURever pet.

In the length of time I have volunteered for BFLA I cannot even begin to recall how many purebred dogs AND cats I have seen come in to the adoption center. This goes for all shelters across the nation, purebred dogs and cats are there. They need homes. There is nothing wrong with them, unless you count them not having a loving family to take them home.

If you or your family are interested in a particular breed for your own personal reasons, that is okay! However, please consider looking to your nearest animal shelter or consulting Petfinder to help to locate that breed who can be adopted.

  1. There is a rescue group down here specifically for purebred dogs and cats (not that I personally see why it matters buuuut...again, no politics today!) and I'm still baffled when people say they're buying so they can get a purebred.

OMG, SABINE, COME BE MY FRIEND! Amelia would love a furry friend bigger than she is, lol.

    1. That is awesome!

Sabine and Amelia would be such good friends, she could ride on him like a horse! :)

  2. I wish more people who wanted a purebred found other sources other than paying for breeding!
