Senior Pets

One cause/movement that is near and dear to my heart is the adoption of senior pets. Senior pets are often overlooked at shelters and rescues because most people believe that they are too sick, or they will pass away within days of adopting them. Yes, SOME animals may be sick with a disease or pre-existing condition prior to adoption, but it takes a truly great soul to adopt an animal that may be in the last months of their lives.

It is important to remember, this is not always the case!!! There are MANY dogs and cats (and other species, too!) that are considered "senior," generally ten-years-old and higher, that desperately need a FURever home. Senior pets can offer the most comforting kind of companionship because not only are they already trained to do the most basic of tasks, but they are generally more relaxed and excellent companions for low-key families or individuals living on his or her own.

Meet Lil John! Lil John is a ten-year-old gentleman that is available for adoption at Best Friends Animal Society-Los Angeles. This little sweetheart would love to meet you, so go on down to the center and meet Lil John and perhaps he will win you over and you take him to his new FURever home that day! 1. There is no love like the love in the eyes of a senior pet who knows he or she is loved and is in a warm, comfortable, happy place to live life in contented retirement! They know when they've been given the ultimate second chance, too.

As you know, my parents adopted a senior dog a few years ago, and he suits them perfectly because he is happiest lying around and lounging with them as his exercise needs aren't so great. A lot of people end up surrendering their animals because they "don't have time" to walk them, so it's harder to think of a more perfect match for them!

Lil John is adorable! I hope he finds a nice, calm family to call home soon.
